ABSTRACT

Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) produce a significant number of diverse professionals that materially strengthen the fabric of the United States. MSIs have successfully graduated millions of students of color, many of whom come from economically disadvantaged communities, where most have never attended college or earned a degree or credential. Strong leadership can go a long way toward helping MSIs and their students achieve success. Effective Leadership at Minority-Serving Institutions: Exploring Opportunities and Challenges for Leadership underscores the exigency of dynamic institutional leadership during dynamic social transformations. MSI leaders are key to driving success across a broad cross-section of traditional institutional variables including: admissions, size, and growth; graduation, retention, and financial aid; fiscal resources and assets; and capacity, administration, and human capital. MSIs serve a vital role in educating low income and first generation college students in our nation, which is becoming increasingly more diverse.
