ABSTRACT

Abstract In their response to Héritier’s chapter, Dirk De Bièvre and Peter Bursens explore the dividing lines between the different patterns of covert integration she distinguishes and provide some refl ections about combinations of these different patterns. They do so by illustrating the great usefulness and wide applicability of these seemingly simple analytical distinctions and by applying them to some other examples from European decision-making. Finally, they refl ect on which patterns might suffer most from claims of illegitimacy from European electorates.
