ABSTRACT
The death of Polish Pope John Paul II on 2nd April 2005 united football fans from all over Poland. The Pope was regarded as one of the greatest figures beyond national boundaries. The 'peaceful agreement' deriving from the Pope's death is an example of cooperation of antagonized fans in extraordinary circumstances. Cooperation between supporters arises not only from the reaction to current events as fans but also during fighting with police. Cooperation between fans refers to an arena of shared values. Collective actions are possible only due to the fact that rivals agree to the same principles. The rules of the relationship between fans began to be regulated by an informal code, the so-called 'Fans Code'. Among the rules that the Fans Code contains, there are the following stipulations: fans must support one another in a fight against the police, and not to maltreat defeated opponents.
