ABSTRACT

As China has grown from the world’s factory to the world’s market, it has also transformed from a capital importer into a capital exporter, which results in the localization of international companies and the internationalization of the Chinese companies. During this profound transformation, Chinese private equity funds can act as a bridge of different markets with their resource advantages and experience in cross-border investments. This chapter cites examples of four of Hony Capital’s portfolio companies – Jinjiang Hotels, China Jushi, PizzaExpress and WeWork – to elaborate how the private equity fund has helped Chinese companies to go global and become the first-tier players in the world, and also to bring in the high-value-added foreign services and consumer products to China.
