ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors provide a collaborative and values driven effort that to date has involved contributors from five continents. They describe the methodological approaches, research design, and pedagogical strategies adopted and continued to use in the creation of video-documentary. The Voices of Children documentary project (VoC) took shape in 2012 when a small, but internationally diverse group of educators came together in Norway to dialogue about efforts to promote the rights of children. Our VoC team consists of three Brazilians three early childhood educators and a technology expert from the United States, and an early childhood educator of Indian descent from Singapore. While schools in some countries required very formal processes of written consent, in others the VoC team needed to ensure that consent forms were being completed. Children were also aware of their overriding duties of obedience to and respect for elders at the expense of holding and sharing an opinion.
