ABSTRACT

The ensuing rise of extreme weather events, along with the growth of human population and infrastructures in vulnerable areas, has been given much attention by scientists, policy-makers and citizens. This chapter investigates the role of risk perception in the definition of policy and practice for climate risk governance in the Marche Region. The identification of climate impact is pivotal to understanding how a society has to prepare in order to deal with emerging climate hazards and risks. The changes in the Earth's climate could cause deep and irreversible alterations to both natural and human environments. Scientific knowledge about climate change covers many disciplines and draws from different parts of the scientific community. It is very important to understand how people, emergency managers and decision-makers, perceive climate risk. The results of the risk perception analysis revealed a good knowledge of climate risks among the residents, policy-makers and emergency managers of Marche.
