ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with a list of design recommendations that can help designers create meaningful places. When planning the design of a space, a designer seeks to understand how the space will be used and what features are necessary for it to function in a way that meets the client's needs. Health and well-being, as it relates to design, can be examined on many levels. The ability to shape spaces as a designer is an enormous responsibility. The Interiors Declaration written by designers assembled by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers in 2011 outlines the value, relevance, responsibility, culture, business, knowledge, and identity of interior architects and interior designers. Designers should remember they are designing places where life events are experienced. Designers have a responsibility to think about how a space will serve the human need for connecting with others.
