ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we present five anecdotes that are based on our experience of teaching an introductory course in sustainability to media technology engineering students. These anecdotes are examples of occasions when teaching sustainability at a technological university runs into various barriers. The anecdotes unveil various tensions and contradictions, but we argue that these are an unavoidable precondition for change. With this chapter, we hope to start a discussion about how to work through these contradictions, and where we should direct our energy in order to work towards change.
