ABSTRACT

On the basis that sustainability problems are not amenable to single-point interventions (because they are both wicked and numerous), we need a step-change in how we approach sustainability research in human-computer interaction (HCI). The sustainable HCI community is currently broadly spread between research that considers doomsday scenarios, critical theory, situated formative work, and intervention design. Some might be frustrated, as it can look like sustainable HCI isn’t moving fast enough or dealing with the wicked and complex sustainability issues. Here you will find two researchers having a conversation about the possibility of transformation.
