ABSTRACT

Leadership has become a critical issue for all because of its role in enabling individuals, institutions and whole countries to achieve their missions and goals. With the impact of globalization, diverse markets and employees, increasing competitiveness and demands for democracy, the leadership of institutions has become more complex and demanding. Nowadays, to address this complexity, leaders are required not only to embrace diversity, but also to give full consideration to the concept of inclusion. In the Middle East and in Saudi Arabia in particular, leadership approaches are discussed only amongst scholars and in specialized conferences. It is only recently that general training and preparation has taken place for leadership development. Institutional diversity and inclusiveness are becoming more important to HEIs in order to fulfill the numerous demands essential to knowledge societies. The importance of inclusion in society today is such that there is an increasing focus on measuring inclusion.
