ABSTRACT

This chapter provides specific examples of evidence-based practices (EBPs) for more common issues that present with children and adolescents in both school and clinical mental health settings. The Coping Cat Program is a cognitive behavioral manualized and comprehensive treatment program for youth who experience anxiety disorders. Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an example of targeted intervention for youth who have experienced trauma. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a widely used and empirically valid counseling approach for a variety of presenting concerns such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, behavioral disorders, and academic motivation. Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA) serves as an assessment strategy that examines antecedent events, as well as maintaining events, associated with problem behaviors in students. The beauty of neurofeedback is that it provides immediate information to children and adolescents about the ways in which their brain activity is being influenced by the counseling process.
