ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book offers a journey to expanded rights through constitutional change. It begins with an examination of the role of sociological study and teaching in human rights. With some knowledge of the current constitution, the book explains the importance of integrating human rights into the US Constitution. It explores how to achieve change through social action in the US. The book presents the information that helps to reach a deeper level of knowledge and consciousness about life in the US under the constitution. Modern constitutions recognize the emergence of human rights, cultural rights, economic rights, political rights, the importance of gender equality, the environment, and so much more. To better understand the importance of including the environment in the US Constitution, Shekha and Edwards look at constitutions in the Americas.
