ABSTRACT

Introduction The notion of creative industries emerged in the United Kingdom during the 1990s within the Think Tanks of the Labour Party. The official definition of the creative industries given in 2001 by the British authorities identifies three main and common characteristics: “those industries which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property” (Department for Culture, Media and Sport, United Kingdom, 2001).
