ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how pursuing an agile approach to managing the leading decentralized Business Intelligence (BI) software solutions enables organizations to be more effective in managing data. A conceptual framework is provided to manage BI platforms in the context of a specific agile methodology, scrum. BA is more frequently used by the business community while vendors and academics appear to use all several interchangeably. Higher-level analysis, data warehouses and data marts were necessary to snapshot and aggregate data from relational databases covering multiple functional business areas into reports, online analytical processing, and dashboard applications in the form of visualizations. The original models of BI through Decision Support Systems were conceived to be data driven rather than process driven, which allowed the management of such to move from traditional waterfall development methods to more agile methods. The software development lifecycle initially consisted of a "waterfall" or "cascade" model that relied on structured, independent, and linked processes.
