ABSTRACT
This chapter describes some examples of the work that has been carried out, in different constellations, researchers, external actors and the general public. It focuses on collaboration and on media, with the perspective on media being a broad one. Coming to Malmo University from a traditional social science research environment and getting the privilege of being able to work closely with design scholars, it has become clear how important for the media studies field theoretically informed, practice-based research can be. In 2007, the traffic environment unit of Malmo city started a project dealing with getting inputs of citizens concerning how to reduce car traffic in the center of town. The idea was to make possible an indefinite number of different Malmo City Symphonies, and make possible continuous remixes of the ones previously made. The project contained a number of subprojects, one of which dealt with the creation of a collaborative media production based on the documentary genre of city symphonies.
