Note on Italian Editions: Marco E. L. Guidi
In his introduction to the edition, Hoola van Nooten mentions the intention of a Mr Van Woensel, a Doctor of Medicine, to publish his own translation of Wealth of Nations. Pieter van Woensel (1747-1808) embarked however on a lengthy period of travelling later writing of his experiences in Turkey, Anatolia, the Crimea and Russia. He wrote a dissertation on ‘Spec. acad. inaug. sistens quaedam miscellanea medica’ (Leiden 1770), little books on influenza and a book of advice for seafarers; he was also the translator of Cervantes and of a summary of Raynal’s Histoire philosophique.
