ABSTRACT

The second revolution in physics consists of two earth-shaking theories : (a) Albert Einstein' s theory of relativity, and (b) quan tum mechanics. The former redefines the outer limits of man's knowledge, such as the concepts of space, time, gravitation, and motion; the latter penetrates deeper into the problems concerning the basic units of matter and energy. This chapter considers some important implications of relativity theory for philosophy and economics. Quantum mechanics and its shock waves are the sub ject of chapter 5 .
