ABSTRACT

Given that the intent of this volume is to provide business schools and corporations with new insights for their organizational ethics initiatives, it is fitting to conclude with a few reflections on the state of ethics in business and the state of business ethics. Most knowledgeable individuals, especially after reading this volume or being exposed to the nightly television news or virtually any newspaper or news magazine, would probably agree that the state of ethics in business is not good. The recent, widely publicized spate of corporate scandals, including ethical misconduct and illegal behaviors, has galvanized the public and resulted in numerous new government regulations and laws, changes in corporate governance, and countless civil and criminal lawsuits.
