ABSTRACT

We seek in this chapter to identify major organizational, business, and socioeconomic issues that will present significant challenges for the human resource (HR) function in the years ahead. To do so, we have drawn on the lessons learned during the twentieth century and current trends in human resource management (HRM), as detailed in Section II of this volume, as well as the perspectives of HR practitioners about the future direction of HR and HRM policies and practices, discussed in Chapters 12 and 13 of this volume.
