ABSTRACT

Internet access is offered by three basic categories of service providers—corporate/institutional, national commercial, and local commercial providers. For those who work at companies or institutions offering Internet access to their employees, the best way to learn about your options is to speak directly to your system manager or computer support staff. The two powerhouse packages that most Internauts use are Netscape Communicator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Qualcomm's Eudora and Pegasus are currently two of the best packages for handling e-mail that are available on the Internet at no cost to students, faculty, and staff. Because electronic communication is still new, the rules governing online expression are still evolving. There are already, however, some basic courtesies that keep the free and open communication of the Internet polite and enjoyable. The question of copyright is an important one for students, teachers, librarians, publishers, and all those on the Internet.
