ABSTRACT

Established in 1985, the Polish Wire and Rope Factory, Drumet, is one of the biggest producers of steel wire and steel wire ropes in Europe. Drumet is the strongest producer of steel wire and ropes, although there are four other large producers in Poland. At the beginning of 1990, Drumet had a solid position in the domestic market. Its products were in demand, and the volume of production was restricted only by capacity, which gave Drumet a measure of control over the prices of its products. Drumet also conducts analyses of West European markets with the aim of discovering profitable market niches. Drumet began as a state-owned enterprise. It entered the path of ownership transformation by becoming a joint-stock company with the state treasury as its sole shareholder in April 1991. Drumet has a good chance to become a company with a stable and firm position in the European steel wire and rope market.
