ABSTRACT

Syntex produces socks, kneesocks, pantyhose, slips, and yam, which is used for its own needs and sold to other firms. Syntex is the biggest producer of socks in Poland. It makes plain and jacquard socks from cotton and from anilana and elastil, which are polyester fibers. In August 1991, Syntex found itself on the list of 200 state-owned enterprises earmarked for so-called common privatization in the privatization program prepared by the Ministry of Ownership Transformations. In accordance with the statutes of Syntex, the company is managed by a supervisory board and a management board. The marketing division has been expanded, and many actions have been launched to strengthen Syntex’s competitive advantage in the long term. Syntex is the main employer in its region. In the mid-1970s, a decision was made to build the company to employ a huge surplus of female labor in the local labor market. Syntex also faces imports of competitive products, differentiated considerably with regard to quality.
