ABSTRACT

Europeans should leave the country, or that we should get self-government. There was no idea of that. What we objected to was that the Europeans did not treat us as we had treated the Dorobos. I mean, we bought our land from the Dorobo according to agreed prices, and as I said earlier, we planted itoka lilies to confirm these sales. We did not simply claim land without the Dorobo knowing anything about it. And I am not saying that one or two Europeans did not do things in a proper manner. Take the way Mr. Krieger bought his farm from a Kikuyu, Gichinga, just nearby here at Thembigwa. He paid him 70 female goats in the presence of Mr. Knapp, and I always told my people that they should not fight to get that piece back, for it was not taken secretly or by force.
