ABSTRACT

Though the discovery of agriculture and domestication of animals also occurred in eastern Asia and the Americas, the Near Eastern agricultural revolution produced most of the domesticated crops and animals still used in the West today. The basic varieties of wheat, barley, peas, and lentils, as well as many nuts (such as almonds, pistachios, acorns, and walnuts) and

remained in the final product that the beer was drunk with a straw (a metal tube) or filtered through a strainer (usually built into the spout of the beer jug). Wine was produced much as it is today, by stomping grapes in a tub to mash them and produce liquid, then pouring off the liquid and allowing it to ferment. Wine also was strained before being drunk in order to remove any grape residue. In Egypt, wine jars were labeled with the source and date of the vintage, just as today.
