ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of the book. The book discusses the social construction of poverty, within the current policy context, and interrogated some of the common discourses that attempt to explain the growing phenomenon and seek for solutions. It expresses that there is a simplified approach to understanding poverty, which focuses on blaming individuals whilst disregarding wider and more complex structural explanations. The book examines the role of Early Years Education in challenging these misconceptions and aims to equip Early Years practitioners to identify the disadvantages faced by children and families living in poverty, and offer effective and non-judgemental support. The EYFS curriculum places an emphasis on the importance of an inclusive environment for all children. The importance of working in partnership with parents in Early Years settings has long been taken as read, and remains central to the EYFS.
