ABSTRACT

International Development through Excellence and Leadership in Sport (IDEALS) is a UK Sport programme designed to establish a high quality, progressive and co-ordinated sports leadership development exchange programme between UK universities and their international partner institutions. Volunteering is a choice people make and is a donation of their own time. Motivations to volunteer are complex, and relate to a range of conceptual factors underpinning drivers to volunteer, such as for solidary, purposive or material reasons. Physically Active Youth (PAY) is a community-based after-school project that focuses on the development of young people in Katutura. The programme incorporates a holistic approach to child development by combining academic work with physical activity and sport, life skills, gender and HIV/AIDS education. Special Olympics Namibia (SON) is part of a global organization catering for intellectually disabled athletes, from the age of eight. SON represents and supports the intellectually disabled athletes of Namibia.
