ABSTRACT

The fact that several political Islamic movements have seized power over the last few years has raised the issue of how they conduct foreign policy. To what extent can we consider Islamists different from non-religious political actors? In this chapter, the foundations of Islamist actors’ worldview bring two key elements. The first concerns the revisionist iterations of political Islam which might be potentially deviant as it evolves over time. This is apparent in Islamists’ sociological changes in their accession to political power regardless of geopolitical matters. And second is the possibility of reshaping political Islam where radical counter-revolutionary forces subsist.
