ABSTRACT
This chapter will examine the gaps in traditional responses during natural and unnatural disasters in the Republic of the Philippines. Alternative responses based on community collaborations, trauma-centered services, and empowerment will also be discussed as possible ways to address needs but also target root causes exacerbating such disasters.
