ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors explain the main aspects to consider when they intend to create a therapy group for persons with psychotic experiences. They cannot expect a therapy group to be a single and global treatment by itself of patients with psychotic experiences. In groups dedicated to persons with psychotic experiences, the commitment, effort, motivation and empathy of the therapists with these patients are essential. The possibilities for creating a therapy group for persons with psychotic disorders are very diverse. Therefore, the therapeutic groups that can be created in them should have specific objectives and tasks, in accordance with the care demands and general functions of the specific institution where the therapy groups may be located. A therapy group with psychotic patients, and even more so with patients in crisis in institutionalised psychiatric wards, generally entails moments of crisis, more or less unexpected tensions and management problems with some group members.
