ABSTRACT

The distinctiveness of group therapy with persons undergoing or who have undergone psychotic experiences is the multiplicity of realities that exist in a group. The acceptance of the subjective character of the psychotic experiences is the first, essential and inexcusable objective of group psychotherapy with persons who suffer psychotic disorders. There is one experience that the entire group participates in and then there are as many psychotic and unique realities as there are members of the group. The patient has come to this centre on his/her own initiative or that of his/her close relatives, with difficulties or problems that have been evaluated by qualified professionals who have recommended that the patient attend group therapy within a therapeutic programme. They are real persons who, according to the therapists, have similar mental problems, who can be able to understand, to cope with or to overcome these problems through the communications they establish in the group therapy.
