ABSTRACT

Terrorism has raised all kinds of issues of global security after 9/11, especially for Westerners. Much attention in the literature has been given to the subject in recent times, but very scarcely on the Caribbean. This is a blind spot considering that millions of Westerners travel to the region each year for vacations and there is a significant supply of petroleum products from the region to the U.S. and elsewhere. There are also vested territorial interests and assets of the West in the region as well as major refineries and storage of petroleum goods. This chapter addresses historical and current incidents and issues of terrorism in the region, and inquires into potential vulnerability to terrorism in/from the Caribbean.
