ABSTRACT

While there have been reports and studies highlighting the economic and fiscal impact of performing arts centers (PACs), a significant gap exists in current research that assesses the more comprehensive value of PACs in their communities. This chapter presents a framework and case study for analyzing the value of a performing arts center in three main categories of public engagement value , economic value , and cultural value . As depicted in Figure 10.1 , this framework for analysis considers the value of the PAC to patrons, volunteers, and education within its public engagement value; the value to local businesses, to cultural tourism, and to anchoring an arts district within its economic value; and the value to resident companies, arts programs, and cultural advocacy within its cultural value.
