ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how education is implemented in two inpatients Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) units in England. Most young people admitted to an inpatient CAMHS unit are perceived to have a high risk to themselves or to others where they are not able to be kept safe within the community. A multi-disciplinary team approach is also implemented within the college to ensure educational activities are provided with the young person's risk and safety in mind. Learning preferences are important in supporting individual to learn, whether this is in mainstream education or in a specialist education provision. The college makes assumptions that Ofsted teams are consistent and hope that whoever does the inspection has expertise in their special education context, but unfortunately this isn't always the case. School governance is an important part of any education provision. Governance is incredibly important to the college.
