Elimination of urine and faeces is an essential bodily function. Nursing assistance with elimination is basic care, however, and as an activity of daily living, a very important one. The amount and type of nursing support required with elimination needs vary and depend upon a thorough assessment and should be undertaken with sensitivity and compassion to ensure patient privacy and dignity.
