ABSTRACT

The overall aim of wound management is to promote wound healing. Wound management is a vast topic with an ever expanding and developing knowledge base. Good wound care and management are paramount for positive wound healing and patient experience. Despite the rise in technology, evidence and wound care products, wounds continue to be an area of care that nurses face regularly. Many wounds can be prevented with good quality nursing care but others are unavoidable. Inappropriate assessment and care and management can lead to delayed healing, infection, pain, overall reduced quality of life and distress for the affected patient and their family.
