ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by outlining key principles in intercultural competence assessment as well as student outcomes assessment, which are fundamental in ensuring that approaches to intercultural competence assessment follow good practice. It highlights some issues in intercultural competence assessment as well as exploring some key considerations to take into account and ends with a brief view to the changing paradigm of outcomes assessment in international education. In assessing intercultural competence, there are few considerations that can be utilised in designing the most effective process: Consider a comprehensive approach, beyond numbers, Map goals, outcomes, content, learning activities, evidence, and use, and consider a more holistic approach to intercultural-competence assessment. The chapter outlines some key assessment principles, highlighted issues and considerations to take into account when assessing intercultural competence, in addition to introducing a changing assessment paradigm that can be applied to intercultural assessment efforts.
