Number 980 (8 October 1898) About Peggy Saville (Jessie Mansergh / Mrs G. de Horne Vaizey) Ch. 1 pp. 17-18

Fourteen-year-old Peggy boards with the Reverend Asplin and his family in England for schooling while her parents are in India. The vicar believes music is useful for girls but tailors its practice to their talent. Peggy does not pursue music; his daughter Esther, a scholar with minimal musical ability, spends minimal time on the piano, while Mellicent, who is not a scholar, focuses on the violin.
