ABSTRACT

Christians believe that their faith inherits and completes the Jewish story, beginning, they teach, with the story of Adam and Eve, how they disobeyed God and were cast out of the Garden of Eden. Christians make use of two sacraments: baptism and the eucharist. "Eucharist" is a generic name, although some Protestant Christians may not recognize it since they are more accustomed to the term "Holy Communion". The story which Christians act out liturgically is found in its key scripture, the Bible. Protestantism is characterized by its emphasis on the Bible and its doctrines of salvation by faith and divine grace. As globalization has brought together the world's various faiths on a more equal footing than that of the nineteenth century colonial missionary heyday, many Christians seek to explore inter-religious dialogue, rather than convert members of other faiths who were described as "heathens" or "pagans" in previous generations.
