Practitioners

What do they want to know?
WithJohn M. Kamensky

Public managers are increasingly expected to use collaborative networks instead of the traditional hierarchical approach as a management strategy to implement policies in complex environments, such as social services and healthcare. However, they must continue to work in both networks and hierarchies. This chapter addresses key questions public managers have about how to successfully navigate the world of collaborative networks, and some of the research that addresses those questions. It also highlights areas where additional research would be helpful to public managers in expanding the use of collaborative networks in the future.
