ABSTRACT
This chapter speculates as to the future opportunities and challenges facing research into collaboration and collaborative networks from the perspective of two early career researchers with different research backgrounds. The chapter explores nascent trends and tools in network research, and postulates as to their implications for organizations, society and research (academic and applied). The chapter concludes by acknowledging that, with the enhanced power associated with emerging network analysis techniques, comes great responsibility. A call for both ongoing optimism and critique of network research and its potential impact is posited.
