ABSTRACT

The chapter provides an introduction to a phenomenological action research methodology called Research Oriented Action Research (RO-AR). It argues that RO-AR is a suitable method for empirical research and practice-oriented theory development in the field of inter-organizational collaboration. It provides a brief summary of action research and highlights key features of RO-AR. Through detailed descriptions of three interventions, it illustrates how RO-AR has been used to develop theoretical conceptualizations inherent in the theory of collaborative advantage. A discussion on issues of data capture and analysis is provided, along with a brief evaluation of the method including considerations of rigour and relevance.
