ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the challenges involved in implementing a Collective Impact approach in cultural contexts that diverge from the majority culture. More specifically, it addresses the role of backbone organizations in addressing the challenges posed by cultural diversity and the need to adapt form and substance to the cultural norms of minority groups. The challenges and the role of backbone organizations are examined in the context of a Comprehensive Community Change Initiative in Israel, which has been implemented in a wide range of diverse communities. The focus is on the implementation of the initiative in an Arab community.
