ABSTRACT
THE REGRESSION procedure is designed to perform either simple regression (Chapter 15) or multiple regression (Chapter 16). We split the command into two chapters largely for the sake of clarity. If the reader is unacquainted with multiple regression, this chapter, on simple regression, will serve as an introduction. Several things will be covered in the introductory portion of this chapter: (a) the concept of predicted values and the regression equation, (b) the relationship between bivariate correlation and simple regression, (c) the proportion of variance in one variable explained by another, and (d) a test for curvilinear relationships.
