Nonhierarchical Log-Linear Models
LOG-LINEAR modeling, using the SPSS General Loglinear procedure, is very flexible. Because of its great flexibility, it is difficult to provide a simple step-by-step approach to these operations. Using the General Loglinear procedure often involves executing the procedure multiple times, testing various models in an attempt to discover the best fit. Because of these subtleties in using log-linear models, this chapter will attempt to (a) provide a general introduction to log-linear modeling for those who need a review of the basic ideas involved and (b) provide step-by-step computer instructions for running the most common types of models. For more complex models, beyond the scope of this book, we refer you to the SPSS manuals for details.
