ABSTRACT

Critical consideration of Edith Kramer’s work from a contemplative perspective of lineage is the focus of this chapter. Mindfulness-based, empathic elements of art as therapy, particularly the needed wakeful awareness of self–other dynamics practiced through third hand sensibilities are addressed. This form of artistic interpersonal jazz requires ethical perceiving anchored in principled experiencing, observing, and responding. Lastly, mention of Edith’s fierce ecological stewardship is touched upon as an example of her far-reaching, third hand environmental concern.
