Library Space and Print
A signi¿cant part of this book is given over to capturing the trend in library design from ‘the collection-dominated library buildings of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to the service-rich, user-focused ones of the twenty-¿rst century’ (Latimer 2011). In this early part of the century there is a tipping point in the transition from print to electronic collections in academic libraries. Alongside this technologydriven change, there are also major developments in pedagogic methods which are inÀuencing library design. Libraries are moving from a book-centred paradigm to a learner-centred paradigm of library design (Bennett 2009).
