ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a number of contributions on specific research areas in the field of travel demand management (TDM). It is clear from scrutiny of the chapters presented and topics addressed in this chapter that there is a large amount of research on the development, success, failure and opportunities for travel demand management in the transport system. The main aim of this chapter therefore is to share experiences and discussions of a number of topics and research areas which have been neglected in the past. The UK Government is strongly supporting local councils in the implementation of congestion charges on motorists entering and leaving cities; unless the cities accepted the congestion charge, they would not get any extra fund for improving their public transport services. Finally more and more experience on both national and international levels on TDM will provide more success and less failure with TDM.
