ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book concludes by presenting Ioannides and Petridou, brought into contention employment and employees in the tourism sector. It identifies the importance of the need for clear leadership that is committed to addressing environmental issues and the presences of clear support from the appropriate agencies. Employment arising through tourism development is almost as often cited as its perceived contribution to the economy. Management and education also have a part to play which may have greater effect in the long term. A sustained decline in demand for air travel, for example, holds implications for the financial health of the airline sector which, as Button notes, is recognised by the EU as an important sector of the European economy. They also point out that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) inspired initiatives contribute to employee motivation and satisfaction, factors which are particularly significant in operations dependent on the quality of service.
