ABSTRACT

The aim of this book is to capture the influence of international engagement for the transformation processes in the security and defence fields. The focus has been upon Sweden and its more than 10 years of involvement in Afghanistan. Through the careful mapping of different dimensions of the fields, the chapters in the volume asked what influence, if any, could be seen in policy, strategy, organization and practices. Overall, these focal points were also seen as gateways through which to detect expressions of a changing Swedish identity in international security affairs. The chapters began to problematize the consequences of the international engagement in Afghanistan. In this concluding chapter, the results are summarized and the different pieces of this puzzle are arranged and related to the transformation processes in the security and defence fields.
