ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the spatial distribution of key demographic data from the 2010 Census in the Washington Metropolitan Area. 1 In particular, Hanlon et al.’s (2006) call to rethink the Traditional Model of urban form is used as a benchmark for discussing these distributions. The goal in comparing the Washington Metropolitan Area to the Traditional Model, which is outlined and described below, is twofold—to identify key spatial patterns apparent in the 2010 data on the Washington Metro Area and to discuss what these trends suggest for future models.
